While gathering evidence in our campaign against outdoor burning, we discovered an even more
deadly source of air pollution: The "air curtain destroyer" or "tree-burning machine" or "trench burner."
This machine can burn 20 tons of trees and wood waste in one hour. The air blowing machine reduces visible smoke, while sending massive amounts of minute particles into our air and lungs
for miles around.
Trench burner or transfer truck- which is worse for our neighborhood?
The danger of our generous burn policy became apparent to many when
a developer was permitted to
operate a trench burner in the children's playground at
Anthony Homes, Macon, Georgia.There were many reports of asthma attacks and headaches
from residents at this time. When the trenchburner was finally
stopped, the asthma attack and headaches ended. However,
it was too late for Lillie Dantley, a mother of five small children,
who died a few weeks later of a heart attack. Death speaks with a loud voice but not loud enough without your
voice.
